PROVIDER IMPACT BRIEF / LOCAL SEO

How Google’s GoTo URL update could affect Places Scout

A product-level assessment of what depends on live Google result links, what could fail, and what should remain unaffected.

Places Scout: scope. Lifecycle context: Acquired by Yext Google link dependency: High exposure in this editorial assessment. Interpretation: Exposure is not an accuracy score or proof of an outage.
Places Scout is assessed as local seo. High exposure describes technical dependence, not a measured product failure.
01 / COMPANY & PRODUCT

What Places Scout provides

Places Scout was a local SEO platform for agencies and multi-location businesses. Yext acquired it in February 2025 and used its technology to launch Yext Scout; the former Places Scout website now redirects to Yext.

The successor product combines local-search and AI-search competitive intelligence. The historical Places Scout service measured Google Search and Maps visibility, but should not be presented as a still-independent SaaS with standalone pricing.

02 / EXPOSURE PATH

Where the redirect matters

Organic local-result URLs can be exposed to /goto. Google Maps and local-pack products may rely more heavily on place IDs and Business Profile entities, so the effect can differ by report. Customers should test organic, map, pack and grid outputs separately instead of assuming one result represents the entire platform.

03 / LATEST PROVIDER RESPONSE

What Places Scout has said

No public /goto response found

No Places Scout or Yext /goto statement was found. Yext acquired Places Scout in February 2025 and launched Yext Scout from its technology; the former Places Scout site now redirects to Yext, so it is not a still-independent SaaS with a current response.

HOW IT CAN CONTINUE

Yext says Scout combines local-search competitive intelligence with its structured-data platform, but does not explain /goto resolution. Map and place entities can cover some local tracking; ordinary organic landing pages still need a recovered destination.

VALIDITY OF THE CLAIM

The acquisition and launch are direct provider facts, not validation of the 2026 redirect. No /goto-specific URL sample, benchmark, incident record or audit was found, and the old-domain redirect prevents inferring standalone product continuity from older material.

PRICE, QUOTA & CADENCE

No /goto-specific price or quota change was found. There is no current public standalone Places Scout price: the old service has been absorbed into Yext’s enterprise offer.

04 / EVIDENCE CHECK

What is known — and what is not

The acquisition and launch are direct provider facts, not validation of the 2026 redirect. No /goto-specific URL sample, benchmark, incident record or audit was found, and the old-domain redirect prevents inferring standalone product continuity from older material.

Check the current product identity.Acquisitions, rebrands and discontinued modules can make older feature and price pages misleading. Use the lifecycle note above before comparing current output or contracts.
